This is the new official Black Funeral website. Black Funeral is a cult underground band from the USA which began in 1993. The years 1993-95 were a very fast paced and extreme time in the changing metal scene. Black Funeral was one of the most extreme bands which earned a cult reputation for being aggressive and very focused on the Satanic ideology of the bands' concept. The founder of the band, Michael Ford, an industrial musician and practicing Luciferian is the sole remaining member of the band. Black Funeral is a concept and design of darkness and the study of the role of the predator in nature.

“Az-i-Dahak” is a strong resurrection of the 1990’s American cult black metal band, known for extreme attitudes and destructive music. The founder of Black Funeral, Michael Ford, known as Akhtya Nachttoter, occupied his time in the upcoming dark elektro industrial band Psychonaut 75 and the medieval ritualistic group Hexentanz. Although Black Funeral has been somewhat dormant for several years, Ford considered that he would return to black metal if he could contribute something powerful to it.

“As we had along with our colleagues, Acheron, Crimson Moon, Demoncy, Absu and others led the American Black Metal scene in the early 1990’s, I had the challenge of not simply revising and rehashing black metal, but to bring some different twist to it, without losing the brutality and cold deathlike feeling. The new CD “Az-i-Dahak” is a concept of ancient Persian Satanic or Ahriman – worship, pre-Christian themes which actually influenced Christian theory. Az-i-Dahak is the name of a mythological Assyrian king who was said to have made a pact with Ahriman, who was kissed upon the shoulders by Satan and spawned two black serpents. These snakes ate the brains of humans, and Zohak or Azi Dahaka slowly became known as the “Fiendish Snake” or “Storm Fiend”. He was dethroned and imprisoned in a mountain in Iran, always seeking to awake as an “Antichrist”, who will bring industry, steel, iron and machinery to an apocalyptic chaos. This is the very musical direction of Black Funeral as well, medieval black metal composed and produced with a post-apocalyptic modern edge - Black Funeral is determined to bring something new to black metal music.

The music of “Az-i-Dahak” is a black metal formed and created in an industrialized way, although never loosing the essence of cold and brutal black metal. Michael Ford has spent years working with industrial and ambient music, thus began creating black metal again with strong mechanical influences. The concepts of “Az-i-Dahak” present a clear connection between the Son of Satan and the music of the CD.

As 1993 brought Black Funeral as what they called “Grim Medieval Vampiric Black Metal”, 2004 brings Black Funeral as destructive black metal with a lifeless, industry ridden darkness and a new beginning for the cult.

“Az-i-Dahak” is a concept of Persian Sorcery and Black Magic. Azi Dahaka (Zohak) was a Persian king who had made a pact with Ahriman (Satan) and was kissed upon his shoulders, from that kiss sprang two black and venomous serpents who ate the brains of men. Azi Dahaka is one of the early sons of the beast, a spirit which is growing in our chaotic times.
